Rain drops kept falling on their heads … but that did not stop 150 folk enthusiasts and families enjoying a great afternoon of music at Ladywell’s very own folk festival on Saturday May 4.

People gathered to listen to Chris Harrison; Jim Radcliffe; Jo Girdlestone; osi Conde (Kora Player from Guinea) despite rain clouds hovering ominously on the horizon.

“A bit of rain isn’t going to stop us”, said Robert, one of the organisers.

Come rain or come shine….

The festival featured seven artists, “Have a Go” maypole dancing and a top of the bill performance by folk legend Julie Felix. Other acts included The Kimberleys; and local Ladywell folk group, the Fishwives

The free festival, on the Green outside the Ladywell Day Centre in Dressington Avenue, was sponsored by Lewisham council, local estate agents Sebastian Roche and lhigh street businesses such as the Larder.

The event was organised by the Ladywell Society and award winning charity Global Fusion Music & Arts, which is based in Greenwich.

The Kimberleys

GFMA, set up in 2001, has worked widely in the local community, providing a focus for a wide variety of activities including: music events, festivals, theatre, community and schools workshops, art exhibitions, fashion shows, and film making,
