Ladywell residents angered by illegal dumping of commercial and residential rubbish around high street

It’s rubbish …. and there’s lots of it.

Ladywell residents are fed up with the illegal dumping of rubbish – commercial and residential – in and around the high street.

Mounds of rubbish regularly appear on street corners and around the new food bins, most of which are stuffed full of everything but food.

Local residents have urged the new ward councillors to take action against individuals and business premises found to be fly tipping – dumping bags of rubbish illegally.

“Some fresh thinking and robust enforcement is needed, including letters to all business and residential premises around Ladywell village,” said one resident..

Fly-tippers can face fines of up to £1,000 when caught on CCTV or identified through evidence.

Rubbish dumping  is a significant issue in Lewisham, which has ranked among the worst boroughs in the UK for illegal waste.

Piles of rubbish bags and bulky items left on street corners not only degrade the local environment but also attract more dumping.

The council stepped up efforts to combat illegal dumping last year, with enforcement teams regularly patrolling high-risk areas

It urges people to submit a report with the exact location and photos via the Love Clean Streets Lewisham platform.

Residents can also download the Love Clean Streets mobile app to log street issues on the go.
