The Brockley Max community arts festival kicks off on Friday May 31 with an opening night party on Coulgate Street by the Brockley Barge. There’ll be an afternoon of rock and rap and an evening of soulful jazz and ska with lots of dancing in the street..

The party, hosted by our fantastic MC Dre and Brockley Studios, starts at 4.30pm and will include a host of local bands and performers.

The arts festival, which attracts thousands each year, is celebrating its 23rd year. it will run until June 8 with a whole range of events offering something for the whole family at a host of venues across Lewisham.

For all of the details for the events, check out the full programme in May at www.brockleymax.co.uk

“Lewisham is such a diverse area. It was important our festival programme reflected that,” said Moira Tait founder and director of Brockely Max Festival.

“We are offering a huge variety of events this year so we’re confident there’s something to suit all tastes …  watching comedy, learning to play the  harmonica or listening to our radio station.”

Some of the other top events include:

  • Art In The Park is back on Hilly Fields on 8th June from 12-6 pm – with family friendly activities such as art workshops, storytelling and a craft market.
  • Following on from the Black Icon’s Project last year, Lift Her Up will bring you meaningful panel discussions, films and workshops regarding black female trailblazers in Lewisham.
  • Brockley Music Trail which brings the whole community together through live music from front gardens to public spaces on Saturday June 1st.
  • Brockley Max rides the airwaves this year with the Festival Radio Station. We’re joining forces with One Harmony Radio, to broadcast festival highlights. There’ll be events coverage, interviews for the Daily Max half hour and plenty more besides. Be sure to tune in!
  • Folk In The Garden – an all-dayer of the best of Lewisham folk bands on 8th June.

For all of the details for the events, check out the full programme in May at www.brockleymax.co.uk
