Glass Mill leisure centre in Lewisham has started hosting a monthly ‘clinic’ where members of the public can bring their bikes for a free ‘tune up’.

The sessions are being run by local charity organisation XO Bikes which employs ex-offenders to give them skills, self-confidence and an opportunity to move on in life in a positive way.

XO Bikes will be in the atrium at Glass Mill on the first Tuesday of every month from 2.30 –6pm.

Customers who take advantage of the free health check will also be entitled to a 10 per cent discount for any further repairs from the organisation’s shop in Lewisham High Street.

Leisure centres in Lewisham are run by charitable social enterprise GLL under the ‘Better’ brand in partnership with the local council.

Supporting the wellbeing of local communities is an important part of the organisation’s ethos.

Matthew Houghton, GLL’s Community Sports Officer in the borough, said: “Hosting XO monthly in our centre allows ourcustomers the opportunity to have a free bike check … This will hopefully encourage more active and ‘greener’ travel to our centres.”
