Lewisham encourages residents to join the Climate conversation

To mark the COP 26 UN climate change conference in Glasgow, Lewisham has launched a Climate Conversation campaign.

It aims to encourage Lewisham residents to talk about climate change and spread awareness with their families, friends and neighbours through the conversation campaign.

Lewisham Council hopes the campaign can raise awareness of the climate crisis and help residents to make some changes in their daily lives that will have a positive impact on the future of our planet.

“We hope that this initiative will spark vital conversations about our climate within the heart of our communities,” says Cllr Patrick Codd, cabinet member for environment and transport.

“We all have to work together to create a greener future, influence the government, and drive real change … Small steps can create big change if we all work together.”

The council has produced a step-by-step guide as part of the Lewisham Climate Conversation campaign, which shares some inspiration and positive actions that residents can take to decrease their carbon footprint.

This includes advice to help start a climate conversation and 10 practical and easy ideas that can benefit the planet.

The aim is for the campaign to spark a community discussion that will encourage action across the borough, inform the development of the council’s climate emergency work and push for change at a national level.

This campaign will go hand-in-hand with other actions that the council is taking to create a greener Lewisham, including implementing over 25 school streets to make it safer for children to walk and cycle to school.

In consultation with local residents it is also hoping to make Catford the greenest town centre in London.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to share their views on social media using these hashtags: #climatechat #climatecuppa #lewisham #onestepgreener or email the council directly at climate@lewisham.gov.uk Download the Climate Conversation Guide here
