Lewisham planning officers have recommended granting permission for the Gillian Street scheme, which involves demolishing the Collins industrial buildings and the construction of two commercial units and eight town houses.

The planning application will go to planning committee B on Thursday September 18. There were 17 objections to the proposal
Officers said the scheme complies with the Lewisham’s development plan and the recently adopted local plan.
“It is of a high-quality, makes a welcome contribution to Lewisham housing supply, and would not have unacceptable impact in terms of design, transport, sustainability and the wider natural environment,” says the planning officer’s report.
Officers said there could be harm caused by the impacts to privacy and overlooking for the neighbouring properties. “However, given the planning merit of the proposed scheme and the privacy mitigation … officers conclude the harm would not outweigh the significant planning benefits of the scheme.”
” It is therefore recommended that planning permission be GRANTED, subject to conditions.”
Gillian Street building to be demolished to make way for eight family homes

Eynsford Property Investments is proposing to demolish the Collins industrial building at 31 Gillian Street and construct eight two storey houses (planning application
Plans for the site also propose a two storey space for two commercial units as well as cycle and refuse storage.

Architects for the developers – Urbanist Architecture – say the eight private homes (seven three bedroom and one four bedroom) will help meet the demand for family sized homes in the borough and ease the housing shortage.
They say the proposal will develop an underutilised site and improve the residential character of the local area.
The site will be landscaped, with a “green avenue” between the new houses. The aim, say the architects, is to improve the sense of community. The development will also include a residents play area for children.
