So here’s what we are hoping for in 2021. What about you?

So what do you want to see in 2021? Here’s what we are hoping for at  Ladywell-Live. Send LL your wishlist.

For the last two years we have been writing about on/off plans for the Play Tower development. Three years ago Guildmore and Curzon were chosen as the preferred developers. Since then there’s been a fire, several break-ins … but little sign of any work.  Can Lewisham and Guildmore finally make a start on saving this building.

The Ladywell Village Improvement Group first campaigned against the rundown, empty flats above Corals several years ago. The flats were renovated but they remained empty. Now Coral seems to have shut up shop. Wouldn’t it be great for the neighbourhood if the site was taken over by another restaurant and the flats were finally occupied.

Let’s see a Hillyfields fayre and a Christmas market in Ladywell this year.

Low traffic neighbourhoods have proved controversial but we think the community benefits when they are well implemented. So we think it’s time to take action to stop Vicars Hill and Algernon Road being clogged up with traffic every afternoon.

More trees please.

And fewer mattresses dumped on pavements.

We would like to see Lewisham council commit to maintain funding for the Ladywell Assembly. We fear the worst. The council is struggling to balance its budget after central government failed to cover the costs of Lewisham’s  emergency response to the Covid crisis. The assemblies suffered big cuts in 2018-19. The council said infrastructure levy funding  should help plug gaps. So let’s hear more. Assemblies without funding will find it even harder to encourage community involvement in local issues.

And finally … let’s hope we will all be able to meet up soon  at our Ladywell pubs, cafes and restaurants.
