How are you keeping yourself busy in the lockdown? If you are a chess enthusiast the Lewisham Chess Club (@LewishamChess) has just what you need – a virtual tournament, writes Colin. The first of what will surely become one of many virtual tournaments is being held on Wednesday March 25, starting 8.00pm.
The format of this tournament will be something like six to eight rounds. In each game each player gets five minutes to play all their moves, that is why it is called a blitz chess tournament!
We have also been challenged by Chester chess cub and Forest Hall chess club (Northumberland to team matches. Bring it on Lewisham is not afraid of anyone.
This sort of tournament will almost certainly be a big growth area for the chess club and chess enthusiasts the world over as we face prolonged periods of isolation.
Our club secretary announced on our Lewisham Chess Club Whatsapp group that he is actively seeking an international match against a club abroad.
