Lewisham offers free activities and healthy food for school children eligible for free school meals

Lewisham is continuing to support the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme which offers arts and crafts, sports and trips through the easter, summer and Christmas school holidays.

The activities and lunches, funded by the Department of Education, are free and open to children aged 4 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals.

Families book the activities using an HAF code which they get if they receive free school meals. Each child should get a code.

The programme, which will run in Ladywell from April 7 to April 18, offers a variety of activities including physical activities, creative and educational tasks, and sessions about healthy eating. Details here

Each day, children will receive a free, nutritious meal.

The government has agreed to continue the HAF programme for 2025-26, backed by funding of more than £200 million.

Future funding for the programme will be determined by the spending review which is due to be set out by the government later this year.

Launched in 2018 with a limited pilot, the holiday activities and food programme funds councils to provide clubs and meals for children eligible for free school meals and others they consider vulnerable in the summer, Christmas and Easter holidays.
