Labour’s Vicky Foxcroft: I will continue to champion our area and fight Brexit

Ahead of the election on December 12 2019, Ladywell Live asked all candidates standing in the Lewisham Deptford constituency to briefly outline their plans for our area (including Ladywell!). We’ll be posting these as we get the candidates’ contributions. You might also be interested in the upcoming hustings hosted by Extinction Rebellion Lewisham on 2 December at Honor Oak Community Centre (details here).

Vicky Foxcroft was first elected MP for Lewisham Deptford in 2015, representing the constituency since then (re-elected in 2017). Vicky says: “It has been an immense privilege to represent Lewisham Deptford in Parliament since 2015.

“We have now endured almost a decade of austerity under the Tories and it has been painful to see the impact this has had on my constituents and the country as a whole.

“Whether it is fighting Brexit, pushing for more funding for our local schools or tackling rising youth violence, I have always taken on campaigns that make a difference to our local community.

“If re-elected, I will continue to champion our local area, fight against Brexit and represent our community’s best interests in Parliament.”

My pledges to you:

Put the final say on Brexit back to the people. Labour will renegotiate a new Brexit deal and put it back to the people in a public vote – with the option to remain on the ballot paper. I will continue to fight for us to remain in the EU.

A green new deal to tackle climate change. With a Green New Deal, Labour will tackle the climate emergency by investing in green industries and creating thousands of good green jobs.

One million genuinely affordably homes. A Labour government will tackle the housing crisis by delivering one million social and genuinely affordable homes over ten years and by cracking down on rogue landlords.

NHS safe in public hands and free prescriptions. Our NHS is at breaking point. Labour will rebuild it by ensuring it is fully funded, increasing GP training places to 5,000 a year and delivering 27 million extra GP appointments.

Bring railways back into public ownership. Labour will bring the railways back into public hands. I will always campaign for better transport links for Lewisham Deptford and will fight for the Bakerloo line extension.

You can find detailed information about Vicky’s work in Parliament so far as well as her pledges in the current election on her website. Or you might get a chance to see her canvassing for support in Ladywell in the coming days:
