A group of Ladywell residents are working to make streets in the neighbourhood safer and quieter for everybody who lives in the area.
Ladywell is plagued by speeding cars and lorries on Vicars Hill. There’s also heavy congestion at certain times on Vicars Hill, Algernon Rd and the high street, Ladywell Road, and as a result pollution levels are high.
The group of residents is keen to hear about the experiences of people who live on Vicars Hill and some of the surrounding roads including Alergnon, Embleton, Ermine, Veda and Algiers.
A questionnaire sent to local residents asks about speeding on their street, dangerous parking, excessive noise, congestion and engine idling.
The group says it wants to collect the information to start a discussions with Lewisham Council about the future of traffic in and around the neighbourhood.
The residents’ initiative follows the council’s much criticised sustainable streets survey that appeared to be heavily focused on extending Controlled Parking Zone times.
Many local residents felt the council survey was “a missed opportunity”. Residents are keen to contribute ideas about sustainable streets, street trees, electric vehicle charging points, bicycle storage, traffic flows through our areas, reducing congestion and pollution.
Residents in Ladywell can contribute to the traffic questionnaire using the url below:

The questionnnaire asks about the impact traffic is having on quality of life and well-being.
It also asks about what interventions residents might like to see on their streets. These include traffic calming measures such as width restrictions, road closures and low traffic neighbourhoods.
