Ladywell Women celebrate local women’s histories

by Tony April 10, 2023
April 10, 2023

Over 20 women keen to find out about local women’s history joined a special walk in Ladywell & Brockley Cemeteries on Saturday 8 April, writes Anne Brandon.

Led by local historian, Julie Robinson, the walk visited the graves of six local women : a victim of bad maternity care; trailblazers in life-saving maternity care and great childcare; a ground-breaking musician, Bletchley Park codebreaker and a local community champion.

Julie said: “I’ve spent years researching women who have lived and worked south of the river and am discovering many fascinating and pioneering women who have shaped our world.

“Their life and contribution is often never celebrated or even recorded so I’m very pleased to have shared some of their stories on this walk.”

Ladywell Women is a group looking into women’s safety in Ladywell – email: LadywellWomen@outlook.com to join the mailing list.
