Lewisham’s Year as Borough of Culture kicks off on Friday!

by Tony January 24, 2022
January 24, 2022

There’s just over a week to go until Lewisham’s year as the London Borough of Culture kicks off.

Friday 28 January is Day One.

Lewisham was awarded £1.35m of funding to deliver a programme which will celebrate the unique character of local people and places.

There will be a year long programme of activities that will place culture at the heart of local communities.

A whole host of events in borough venues, parks and street corners will tell the story of Lewisham’s trailblazers past and present via music, dance, debate, public art and more.

There will be a call to action on the climate emergency and a celebration of Lewisham’s diverse communities.

The year-long programme has been inspired by Lewisham’s rich history of activism and standing up for equality. Jointly led by Lewisham Council and the Albany, We Are Lewisham will bring together all of the borough’s neighbourhoods, communities and stories.

Find out what’s on and how you can get involved. https://www.wearelewisham.com/whats-on/

Day One will kick off with live music and dance at rail stations across the borough.

Local people will be invited to work on an identity tapestry by Mary Corey March at the Lewisham Shopping Centre.

Lewisham Shopping Centre will be playing music connected to the borough.

Later 18 wards will host artists in residence. All details on the wearelewisham website..

This looks like a fantastic way to put Lewisham back on the cultural map of London again!

If you need any help with showing off the borough from an aerial perspective please drop me a line :

Happy to help out.
