Lewisham School of Muralism is now taking applications for its second intake of students

The Lewisham School of Muralism is welcoming applications for its second intake of students.

The school, the brainchild of Patricio Forrester of Artmongers, aims to form a new generation of muralists who want to make a positive contribution to the visual landscape of the urban environment.

Students learn how to design, paint, evaluate and preserve public murals through a mix of class-based workshops and practical sessions.

The school is looking for people who want to help create the changes that are needed on a local and global scale through muralism and community engagement.

Candidates should either be Lewisham residents or Goldsmiths students.

The school anticipates that applicants will be aged 18-35 (although there is no age limit) with a variety of interests and backgrounds to form teams with a rich mix of abilities and talents.

Enthusiasm for the arts, making, collaborating, problem solving and eagerness to learn, are essential.

You will learn a mix of participatory processes and practical knowledge about how to create murals on the streets of Lewisham. Each group will create two collaborative murals whilst engaging a community group.

The course will begin on April 7 2021. The first term ends on June 5. The second term will run from June 23 to August 14. The deadline for applications is at midnight on February 12 2021.

The course is funded, so it’s free for students. Details are available here.
