Getting tired of working from home? Meanwhile Space, a social enterprise which brings redundant space back into use, is offering Covid-safe studio offices and individual desks for rent at PLACE/Ladywell.
Charlotte Hu, a project assistant for Meanwhile, says Ladywell residents working from home during the pandemic may “appreciate a local co-working space at an affordable rent”.
PLACE already houses several businesses including the Rushey Green Timebank, a furniture maker, a haberdashery business and others.
“Meanwhile specialises in taking on temporary spaces – even buildings that are about to be demolished,” says Charlotte. “We refurbish them and ensure there are workable offices and rent them at very affordable rates.”
Meanwhile says it finds wasted space, transforming unloved, dilapidated, difficult buildings, into something useful. That benefits community cohesion and enterprise.
The main aim is to encourage entrepreneurship by reducing the financial risks people in often neglected areas might face. This helps increases the diversity of business and services in an area, and the involvement of communities.
Meanwhile currently has about 10 projects in London and several other schemes around the country. It also offers business support. At the moment that is focused on online Zoom sessions about business plans and finances because of the pandemic. “In better times we offer lots of networking events, says Charlotte.
At the moment, Charlotte says there are individual desks available at PLACE for £148pm (all inclusive). “We also have a 33sqm studio office for £750pm and a 19sqm studio office for £658pm.”
