The Ladywell Assembly on Thursday January 30 will discuss the council’s decision to end funding and support of ward assemblies and its strategic review into the way the council might engage with local communities in future.

Mayor Brenda Dacres has promised “new forms of resident engagement” which she hopes will be better and reach a wider audience – “including in the many communities who do not currently come to assemblies”.

Come along and discuss the issues with Cllr Edison Huynh, the Lewisham council cabinet member for communities and culture, and Ladywell’s local councillors. Could some form of public forum continue without council support? How would it work? Have your say at the meeting.

Also on the agenda are:

Lewisham Shopping Centre Redevelopment plans. Representatives of Land Securities, which has submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of shopping Centre to the council, will attend the assembly to give an update on progress so far. The development plans propose more than a 1,000 new homes and a large park built on the roof of the new centre.

Private Sector Housing and Landlord Licensing Scheme – An officer from the council will outline and answerr questions on Lewisham’s selective licensing scheme which covers nearly all privately rented properties. The scheme will help the council ensure landlords are providing safe and decent quality homes and fair treatment for renters. The officer will also discuss the council’s effors to tighten up the licensing schemes for Houses of Multiple Occupations (HMOs).

Ladywell ward NCIL Fund – There will be a presentation and review of projects proposed for Ladywell NCIL funding – 2025-27. Ladywell ward has almost £45,000 available for a range of community projects in the second round of funding

The Assembly is on Thursday January 30 2025 from 7pm to 9pm at St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, opposite St Mary’s Church, 329 Lewisham High Street, London SE13 6NX (Entrance to the School Hall is on Romborough Way, off Lewisham High Street) .
