Glass Mill Leisure Centre is undergoing a major, multi-million-pound refurbishment as part of a £6m investment programme across Lewisham leisure centres.
The investment by Better gyms, run by charitable social enterprise GLL, and Lewisham council is designed to improve fitness facilities, community spaces, and family-friendly areas.
Under the investment programme Glass Mill will benefit from:

- Gym Expansion: Upgrading and fully refurbishing the gym floor, which will significantly increase the available capacity from 70 up to 110 active fitness stations.
- Brand New Soft Play: Adding an entirely new, three-tier children’s soft play zone to cater to local families.
- Dedicated Party Rooms: Introducing built-in spaces specifically designed for hosting children’s birthday parties and group events.
- Improved Customer Areas: Refreshing and modernising the primary reception foyer and adjacent customer fitness spaces.
- Green Upgrades: Integrating energy-efficiency measures, such as new LED lighting systems, to help lower the centre’s carbon emissions.
Construction work at the gym started at the beginning of August and should be completed by December 2026.
Better says the facility will remain open throughout the renovation and disruption will be kept to a minimum.
