Ladywell Festival organisers look ahead to next year after successful day of music, food and fun supported by local sponsorship

The Ladywell Festival was the “best ever” with 4,000-5,000 people enjoying the music, food and fun throughout the day.

But organisers Ladywell Society and Global Fusion Music & Arts are already looking at lessons to be learned for next year’s festival.

The festival on June 30 was funded by local sponsors for the first time plus £500 from the Ladywell Assembly.

“We started off with no money but the committee organising the festival did a great job. I think we finished with a small surplus,” said Robert Smith of the Ladywell Society.

“There’s already a lot of support for a festival next year. But we need to start applying for funding now.”

Robert said he was sure some things could be done better “but it was a great day.”

“We feared the worst as the parade with Morris dancers set off in the rain. But it soon cleared up for us.”

This year’s festival was held on a bigger site, with more stalls and a host of top quality music acts.

”We had queues at the Ladywell Society stall … quite remarkable.” The society celebrated its 40th anniversary at the festival and picked up a lot of new members on the day.

“Around 75 per cent of people coming to the stall asked about the Playtower and what was happening to it.”
