Folk legend Julie Felix is to top the bill at Ladywell’s very own folk festival on Saturday May 4.
Folk Ladywell, which has been sponsored by Lewisham council, local estate agents Sebastian Roche, will be held on the Green outside the Ladywell Day Centre in Dressington Avenue. The event is free.
High street businesses such as the Larder, and Hillyfields Pistachios in the park are also supporting the event.
The event is being organised by Civic Award winning charity Global Fusion Music & Arts in association with the Ladywell Society.
Julie Felix who continues to perform and release albums in her eighties first achieved success as a recording artist in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She was born in the US but is based in Britain.
In 1965, she was reportedly the first folksinger to fill the Royal Albert Hall. The Times described her as Britain’s first lady of folk.
Other acts booked include:The Kimberleys; Chris Harrison; Jim Radcliffe; Jo Girdlestone; osi Conde (Kora Player from Guinea); and local Ladywell folk group, the Fishwives.
There will also be “have a go” May Pole dancing, childrens’ workshops and a lot more.
The Barn Dance (tickets £7 on the door) in the Ladywell Centre in the evening will be a fitting finale!
