Brockley Max, the annual community arts festival, returns for its 24th year on May 30 with nine days of music, poetry, story-telling and arts and craft workshops.

Designed to inspire, entertain, and bring the community together, the festival takes place in lots of different venues across Brockley, Ladywell, Crofton Park and Honor Oak.

It is a non-profit festival that everyone can attend and be part of and most of the events are free to access. This year the main sponsors of the festival, which attracts several thousand people each year, are AMRO, Landsec, Brockleys Rock, The Brookmill, and St Dunstan’s College.

Art in the Park

The festival kicks off with the Brockley Max Opening Night, an evening of live music in Coulgate Stree on May 30 with Guns 2 Roses headlining.

After that there will be a host of events – music nights, poetry readings, art installations and collaborative projects, dance workshops, film nights, talks, street theatre, and craft events – in venues across the area.

There will be a music trail on May 31 and a poetry and story telling trail on June 1 – both will showcase thge abundance of local talent.

Crofton Books will host a series of storytelling events with a talk by author Natasha Brown on June 4; there will be a creative writing workshop on June 4 at Amrutha, Honor Oak park; soul music at the Chandos on June 6 and Max in the Park on June 7 – with workshops, storytelling and a craft market, perfect for the whole family.

Dance music icons Robin S & N-Trance will take centre stage at the Fox & Firkin for a night you won’t forget on June 7. And thre will also be a 10 hour celebration of Lewisham’s best folk muisic – Fok in the Garden – at the Wickham Arms on
